G7 Renewable Energies, Cennergi Holdings and Northam Platinum partner on the 140MW Karreebosch Wind Farm

G7 Renewable Energies Pty Ltd, Cennergi Holdings Pty Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of Exxaro Resources Limited) and Northam Platinum Holdings Limited, are proud to announce the finalisation of a power purchase agreement for the 140MW Karreebosch Wind Farm, which will supply clean, renewable energy to Northam’s mining operations.

Straddling the Western and Northern Cape provinces of South Africa, close to the town of Sutherland, the Karreebosch Wind Farm will feature state-of-the-art wind turbine technology and will deliver 460GWh of electricity per year to Northam. Construction will commence immediately.

The facility will feature 25 Goldwind turbines, each with a 165-meter rotor diameter, designed to maximise performance in local wind conditions. Goldwind will serve as the turbine supplier and installer. Concor, as the balance of plant contractor, will oversee all civil and electrical works on-site, including the critical grid connection.

G7 Renewable Energies CEO, Dr Kilian Hagemann, expressed the company’s enthusiasm, stating that “We are incredibly excited and honoured to work with a top tier miner like Northam Platinum on this groundbreaking project. The Karreebosch Wind Farm is a testament to our capabilities and commitment to delivering bespoke and cost-effective renewable energy solutions to the private sector. We are grateful to all our advisors and team Cennergi for supporting us to this point”.

Leon Groenewald, Managing Director at Cennergi, highlighted the importance of this achievement, stating, “Reaching financial close with our partners G7 and Northam reaffirms the Exxaro Group’s commitment to its diversification and decarbonisation goals as set out in its Sustainable, Growth and Impact strategy and underscores our commitment to delivering reliable, sustainable energy solutions. This project not only strengthens South Africa’s industrial energy security but also accelerates the country’s transition to renewable energy”.

Project finance is being provided by Nedbank Limited (acting through its Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking Division) CIB, Standard Bank Limited, and Absa Bank Limited.
